The first play of this year's summer programme invites you to dive into the sea of verses written by the poet Jaksa Fiamengo. To show our gratefulness for his poetic heritage that has enriched our theatre repertoire, we dedicate the performance of this awarded play to this renowned poet. The Wardrobe Sea is based upon Fiamengo’s poems about childhood, church tower bells, open windows, friendship and love, with the sea playing the leading role.

‘Of all the stories, I always preferred those on growing up. They contain the best pages of one's life which indeed is but a big book. By living our life, each of us is reading this book and remembering things, adding or reducing them as we please. All our loves and hopes, joys and curiosities, playfulness and imagination are told in its very first pages. In short, they hold the luminance of childhood, put into verse innumerable times, even if never fully so. It has always been related to poetry in a special way, as poetry is related to all childhoods, a poet and a child being no less than the first cousins.’ (Jakša Fiamengo, 1946-2018).
